How I get by

Contrary to what some may think (ahem, Bing), I do have some self-preservation tactics, though the fact that I'm blogging instead of sleeping shows I lack serious self-preservation intuition. But that's besides the point, because I'd like to share one of my favorite self-preservation tactics: make-believe.

Tonight was a long-night at the office, so when midnight came around I decided to get comfortable. I took off my shoes and found satisfaction scrunching my toes against the cheap corporate carpeting. Then I took a quick walk to the pantry to get some tea and my mind began to focus on the soft, light feel of my slacks. It felt good. In fact, it felt like I was in my pajamas. And as I looked out across the cube farm and saw my fellow analysts still out there working, I found a mindset to keep me chugging -- just pretend you're at one big sleep over.

slumber party

A big sleep over where everyone gets together and does work to the wee hours of the night. Right I know, that's a screwed up sleep over, but I found some joy in my ridiculous perspective of things...and that's how I get by.

  2. By the way, I shouldn't even be surprised, seeing as how this is coming from the same person who thinks of Excel as a video game. /:)

  3. OMG. I used to think the SAME thing when I studied late at night in Pendleton Hall at Wellesley! And there, it was REALLY easy to pretend b/c we were all girls. =D
